Thanks to new technologies in medicine, surgeons can now create a breast that closely resembles a natural breast. Today, these operations can be performed simultaneously with breast removal surgery (mastectomy). Thus, when the patient comes out of the surgery, she has a new breast and can get rid of the psychological distress of the period without breasts can cause.
There are options for breast reconstructions;
- Flap reconstruction.
- Breast implants.
Flap Reconstruction
A breast can be made by taking a tissue from the abdomen or hip. This is called flap reconstruction.
In one type of flap surgery, the skin, subcutaneous fat layer and muscle tissue remain connected to the original area by a vessel stem and are shifted to the area where the breast will be formed with the help of a tunnel made under the skin. As it can form the breast alone, a prosthesis can be placed under this tissue.
In another type of flap surgery, the tissue is completely separated from the abdomen, back or hip region to which it is attached, and its vessels are sutured to the vessels in the recipient area (reconstruction with a free flap).
In order to perform this operation, the plastic surgeon must also be experienced in microvascular surgery. Because it is possible to stitch thin veins together under the microscope.
Breast Implants
Breast silicones are the implants. They are placed under the skin from 4 different places in total. These are the fold under the breast, nipple, armpit and belly button. The place where the silicone should be placed determines the place where the incision will be made.
We have different types of implants. Preferred silicones can be in drop or round shapes. It totally depends on what the person wants.
For the short, petite women, smaller and round implants are mostly preferred but drop-shaped big implants are preferred for tall women. There are different shaped and sized breast implants we can apply.
